Transocean

Transocean is the world’s largest offshore drilling contractor and provides its clients with access to mobile offshore drilling units. British Petroleum (BP) leased the Transocean semisubmersible drilling rig Deepwater Horizon, before the recent explosion, fire, and sinking, for a reported $500,000/day.

Transocean Deepwater Horizon Explosion, Fire, and Sinking

Transocean has come under fire in light of the Deepwater Horizon tragedy. At the time of the blowout, 126 people were on the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig; 11 remain unaccounted for; 17 were injured, 3 of them critically; 1 injured person remains in the hospital. (5/1/2010)

It remains unclear the totality of the events that lead to the full effects of the explosion, fire, sinking, and subsequent oil spill, but our lawsuits filed on behalf of Transocean’s injured workers claim:

  • Failure to properly supervise its crew;
  • Failure to properly train all employees;
  • Failure to provide adequate safety equipment;
  • Failure to provide adequate medical treatment;
  • Operating the vessel with an inadequate crew;
  • Failure to maintain the vessel;
  • Failure to conduct a proper search and rescue mission;
  • Violation of applicable Coast Guard, MMS, and/or OSHA regulations;
  • Deepwater Horizon was unseaworthy.

According to statements made thus far by workers and their families, Transocean has not acted in good faith with their employees:

  • Preventing and/or delaying workers from contacting their families in a timely fashion. This added to the emotional damage and fallout suffered by their employees and others who have supported Transocean for decades;
  • Transocean’s attorneys may be filing a ” limitation action” . A ” limitation of liability” statute can be used in some circumstances to limit the liability of the vessel owner to the value of the rig itself. In this case, the current value of Transocean’s Deepwater Horizon is zero. While families try to heal and start down the path towards recovery, Transocean may be more interested in protecting themselves, rather than doing what is right.

WHILE SOME TRANSOCEAN EMPLOYEES MAY BE CONCERNED ABOUT FILING A CLAIM – TRANSOCEAN IS ALREADY THREATENING TO MAKE THE FIRST MOVE.
